Effects of various elements in die - casting aluminum alloy
Silicon is the main element in most die - casting aluminum alloys. It can improve the casting properties of the alloy. When the silicon content reaches 11.7%, the silicon and aluminum form eutectic, which improves the high temperature molding property of the alloy and reduces the shrinkage rate. When the silicon content exceeds the eutectic composition, and copper, iron and other impurities are too much, that is, the hard point of silicon, making cutting difficult.
Increasing the content of copper can improve the fluidity, tensile strength and hard point of the alloy, but reduce the corrosion resistance and plasticity, and increase the tendency of hot cracking.
Adding a small amount of magnesium (about 0.2 ~ 0.3 percent) in the high silicon aluminum alloy, can improve the strength and yield limit, improve the cutting ability of the alloy, magnesium 8% aluminum alloy has excellent corrosion resistance, but its casting performance is poor, at high temperature strength and plastic are low, cooling shrinkage is large, it is easy to produce hot crack and form a loose.
Zinc can improve fluidity, increase hot brittleness and reduce corrosion resistance in aluminum alloy, so the content of zinc should be controlled within the prescribed range.
Harmful impurities are contained in all aluminum alloys, because aluminum alloy iron content is too high, reduce mechanical properties, liquidity reduced, increased thermal cracking, when the iron content is below 0.6%. The adhesion of the alloy on the mold is very strong crack, when more than 0.6%, the phenomenon of adhesion is greatly reduced, so the iron content should generally be controlled in the range of 0.6 ~ 1% is beneficial to die casting, but the highest can not exceed 1.5%.
Manganese can reduce the harmful effect of iron in aluminum alloy. Excessive manganese content can cause segregation.
Nickel can improve the strength and hardness of aluminum alloy and reduce the corrosion resistance.
