Gravity casting is a process in which metal materials are used to make castings and molten metal is poured into the casting mold under Gravity to obtain the castings. Because a pair of metal mold can be poured hundreds of times to tens of thousands of times, the metal mold casting is also known as permanent casting. Metal mold casting is not only suitable for mass production of complicated aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy and other non-ferroalloy castings, but also suitable for production of iron and steel metal castings, ingots and so on.

Crack improvement method :
It is required that the casting wall thickness is uniform, over-smooth, and the inner cavity Angle is large enough to reduce shrinkage resistance, reduce casting temperature appropriately, and shorten mold opening time (to avoid cracking due to mold cavity resistance during casting shrinkage).
It is difficult to detect defects in castings due to coarse grain size, poor sound transmission and low signal-to-noise ratio, which is caused by reflection of sound beam with high frequency sound energy when it encounters internal surface or defects in the propagation of castings. The magnitude of reflected sound energy is a function of the directivity and nature of the inner surface or defect and the acoustic impedance of such a reflector. Therefore, various defects or reflected sound energy on the inner surface can be applied to detect the location of defects, wall thickness or the depth of defects under the surface.
For the internal defects of castings, the common nondestructive testing methods are X-ray testing and ultrasonic testing. Among them, X-ray detection has the best effect, because it can obtain intuitive images reflecting the type, shape, size and distribution of internal defects. However, for large castings with large thickness, ultrasonic detection is very effective and can accurately measure the position, equivalent size and distribution of internal defects.
